Must be nice

I hope everybody's having/had a good holiday. :)

I'll talk about that later. I need to get something off my chest right now.

It must really be nice to be straight. You can go out, meet somebody, get married three months later, have kids before you're financially stable and mentally ready, and nobody bats an eye because you're straight.

I've been engaged to C for five years, desperately want to raise a family with her, and I can't, because I live in Ohio and I'm gay. :( I think it's time to get another kitten.

The best day of the month!

Today was a very good day. After spending most of last night baking sugar cookies and preparing the pie for dinner guests we had tonight, I spend this morning and the afternoon icing cookies and then baking. Dinner was fabulous. Company was fabulous.

The college I go to runs on a quarter-based system. We go ten to eleven weeks at a time, and we get all of December off of school. Thus, I haven't seen a single friend since before Thanksgiving. Tonight remedied that. I feel happy, well-socialized, and I love that I got to feed people (spaghetti and meat sauce, my special veggie dish that my wife loves above all foods, breadsticks, and salad).

Then I get home tonight, check my email and find that DON'T ASK DON'T TELL HAS BEEN REPEALED!!! I'm so excited to see this! I wish it had been repealed about 8 years ago when I still wanted to join the Navy. I didn't though, because I couldn't serve dishonestly like that. It would kill me.

This is a nice step forward though. I'm very pleased that it passed. :D It's about time our Congress actually did some good, though I have a feeling that's the last step forward we'll see out of the courts for a few years. Stupid tea baggers are taking over.

Ever had somebody get mad at you when you don't wish them "Merry Christmas"? Earth to Christians: NOT ALL OF US BELIEVE WHAT YOU DO!

This single-minded belief that many "Christians" have that the world needs to think the way that they do irritates me. This is the reason that in America, gay people do not have equal rights. This is why, in Africa, gay people are being killed and/or brutalized on a daily basis.

I don't understand this. I was raised Christian, then later saw sense and left, but I left with the understanding that Christianity was about loving one's neighbors, not oppressing them. It's frustrating to see good legislation blocked time and time again due to religious or political motivation. It's terrible that because of the high Evangelical population in my area, my would-be wife and I don't DARE hold hands like other couples do. If we do, we could get shot, beaten, or raped. Happily, the worst that has happened thus far is that we've been hit on and asked for a threesome (by a creepy old guy. Double gross!).

This is the holiday season. People of all religions need to man up and show a little more love and open-mindedness to everybody else.

First!

I've been trying to figure out how to start off this blog for a day or so now. I don't have anything overly profound to say, no wonderful advice to offer, or even an opinion to offer at the moment.

This blog, if you are not aware, is about the life of a 26 year old lesbian living in southwestern Ohio with her wife and cats and the difficulties that must be faced day to day. I hope to provide other people (straight people, I'm talking about you) with a view point from "our side". Hopefully, we can all find some common ground here.

So let's start. I like a lot of things, but I hate vegetables, bigots, and flower print patterns. I love cats, jewelry, making bows, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and respect.

What about you guys?

Once I have this page ironed out the way I like it, I'll start writing. Probably should be up and moving soon.
